All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

-Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20)

If you are in the area this Sunday morning (July 29), it would be a great morning to make sure you are present at Covenant. During our service, we will hear the stories of two women at Covenant who will, after the service, be baptized in the bay here in Penetang.

Baptism was given as the initiation rite into the people of God. It wasn't about being perfect or having all the right knowledge. In fact, when Jesus talked "making disciples" he pointed to baptism as the first act of a disciple and the teaching, learning, and obeying followed after. The very act of baptism reminds us that we are responding to God's gracious love to us when we follow Jesus.

If you aren't sure about this "baptism" thing or you're confused about why different churches deal with baptism differently, here are some resources for you to explore as a starting point:

Baptism is a great celebration of people publically identifying with both the way of Jesus and the family of Jesus. Sunday will be a wonderful time celebrating this together!
