At that time Mary got ready and huried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah's home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exlaimed:  "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favoured, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!"

Luke 1:39-45

The joy of the coming Messiah did not begin with his birth. It started well before it. Much like during the time of waiting for a birth today, there is much preparation and celebration before the actual birth day arrives.

At Covenant we have a few opportunities for us to celebrate together during this time of waiting. We hope that you will join in the celebration and even invite others to join with us as well.

  • Sunday, December 11 at 9 & 11 am - The Light of Joy (Elise Robitaille speaking). Our children will be singing a special song for us during the 11 am service.
  • Sunday, December 11 at 6:30 pm - Fireside Nativity Reading at John and Mary Paillè's (160 Awenda Park Rd., Tiny, ON). Come for carols and a reading of the Christmas story beside the fire. Dress for the weather and feel free to invite others. The more the merrier!
  • Sunday, December 18 at 9 & 11 am - The Light of Love. This Sunday will include a special time to remember loved ones we are missing during the holiday season.
  • Saturday, December 24 at 4 & 5:30 pm - The Light of Christ Christmas Eve Service - A joyful and reflective celebration of the birth of Jesus.
  • Sunday, December 25 at 11 am - Christmas Morning Service (note that there is one service only)
  • Sunday, January 1 at 11 am - New Years Day Communion Service - Join us as for a special time of prayer and praise to start the new year!

Other important dates & updates:

  • Covenant Youth Ministry and Covenant Kids programs will take a break after Sunday, December 18th and will resume on Sunday, January 8th. Our office will be operating on an as needed basis for the week between Christmas and New Years. For urgent matters, please contact a deacon or Pastor Jon at home. Otherwise . . . leave a message at the office and we'll respond in the new year!
  • Important Christian Island Sponsorship News! - Due to problems with the vehicle ferry to Christian Island there will not be a social event corresponding with the gifts. Gifts need to be brought to Covenant before Saturday, December 17 at 10:30 am. Social services staff will be picking up the gifts at that time.
  • EXTRA CHRISTMAS TREE AND/OR DECORATIONS?? The Hourieh family, who we sponsored to come to Canada from Syria, would like to celebrate Christmas like Canadians! If you have an extra artificial tree or decorations you would be willing to donate to them, please contact Sean (sean@dodesign.ca) or Elise (erobi@sympatico.ca).
  • Our tellers would like to remind you that this is the final service of the year. If you would like to have a donation included in 2016 it needs to be given on or before Christmas Day.

I pray that you will feel the warmth of the presence of Jesus this Advent and Christmas season. May you enjoy the presence of Emmanuel - God with us - as you celebrate.
