Our History

Our History

Covenant Christian Community Church held our first public worship service on June 15, 1980. Pastor Glenn Robitaille gathered with a group of 32 individuals at Corpus Christi school in Penetang (now James Keating Elementary). Despite opposition from other churches and clergy in the area, this small group of believers were committed to an evangelical witness in Penetang, which would grow to impact Midland and the surrounding townships.

Our building at 95 Robert St. E. was built between 1987 and 1988 by the congregation and friends of Covenant with the help of other BIC congregations around Ontario. It was funded through BIC assistance and the sale of a severed portion of the property, previously purchased by Covenant in 1982. It opened on Palm Sunday 1988.

Glenn Robitaille pastored Covenant until 1993. He was followed by Brian Bell in 1994. During his time, Brian hired Paul Kiss as youth director and Elise Robitaille as the church administrator and ministry coodinator. Shortly after Brian left Covenant in 2003 Paul Kiss became the lead pastor. Under Paul's direction Elise became an associate pastor. When Paul Kiss and his family moved to England to serve in missions, Elise became the lead pastor. Jamie and Paige Weber served in youth leadership under Paul Kiss. Trent and Erin Simons served in various staff roles at Covenant for many years, alongside both Paul and Elise. In 2015 Jon Limmer joined the Covenant family as the lead pastor and Kyle Francey came as the youth director.

Available below is an an excellent history, written by Glenn Robitaille, for our 25th Anniversary in 2005.
